Warsaw Calling

Marking the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, Warsaw Calling is a commemorative website created to accompany a landmark exhibition. Designed as a bilingual digital experience, the site honours the bravery and resilience of those who fought in one of the most significant resistance efforts of the Second World War.

From the first moment, the entry experience sets the tone. Visitors are met with the haunting exhibition poster, a figure ducking behind barricades in a bombed-out Warsaw street,  brought to life through immersive sound and subtle motion effects. This interactive introduction is a visceral call to history, grounding the user in the tension and urgency of 1944.

At the heart of the website is a powerful gallery: 63 carefully curated images, one for each day of the uprising. Together, they tell a chronological and deeply human story of struggle, defiance, and loss. The timeline concludes on 2nd October 2024, eighty years to the day since the uprising was brought to an end.

Built for accessibility and reflection, the bilingual structure ensures that both Polish and English-speaking audiences can engage with the narrative. The site is simple in form, but rich in emotional and historical depth, a digital memorial to a city’s fight for freedom.

This project exemplifies Sumobaby’s commitment to storytelling through design, bringing history to life through considered visuals, thoughtful structure, and the respectful use of modern web technologies.
